St. Petersburg's downtown has become one of the busiest restaurant and museum districts on the Gulf coast, and the glass along Beach Drive and Central Avenue shows it. Those businesses face the waterfront park on one side and constant foot traffic on the other, so entry doors, display windows and terrace glass get cleaned very early and often. The Grand Central and EDGE blocks a few streets west are the same job in older, lower buildings.
The residential city is largely small scale and old. The Old Northeast has brick streets, bungalows and 1920s apartment buildings with wood sash and deep porches, and duplexes from the same boom are scattered through Kenwood and the streets off Fourth Street. That stock is careful hand work with limited ladder positions. Newer housing sits further out toward the interstate and routes far more quickly.
Amazing job. Very professional and our windows are perfectly clean. Thanks Squeegeezy!

Like peas in a pod...

St. Petersburg gets a lot of sun and that is not only a pleasant statistic, it changes the work. Anything landing on glass here bakes on quickly: mineral from a sprinkler, pollen after a rain, insect residue in summer. What might still wipe away elsewhere after a week has hardened by then, so the timing of a clean matters more here than in a shadier city.
The peninsula also catches salt from two directions, off the Gulf on the west side and off the bay on the east, though neither is as heavy as a true beachfront address. It settles as a haze that flattens the view. Old wood sash in the historic neighborhoods adds its own constraint, since aging putty will not take pressure and needs a light hand.
Sun. This city gets a great deal of it, and heat is what turns a soft deposit into a bonded one. Sprinkler mineral, pollen carried down by rain and insect residue all dry and harden on a hot pane far quicker than they would on a shaded window elsewhere. The practical consequence is that leaving something on the glass for a season costs more to remove than dealing with it on a regular schedule.
Yes, and that stock is a good part of our residential work here. Wood sash with divided lites, original glass and putty that may be a century old all need hand tools and no blade. Deep porches and narrow side yards on brick streets also limit where a ladder can stand, so we look at access before quoting. If a glazing line is failing we point it out rather than working water over it.
We do. The blocks along Beach Drive and Central Avenue are among our regular early morning routes, since those businesses need their frontage clear before service starts. Galleries in particular want glass finished properly, because a streak reads across an artwork in the window. Most of that district books weekly or fortnightly, and businesses on the same block often share a visit to keep the cost down.
