Los Angeles is not one city to work in, it is dozens, and a route has to be built accordingly. Hillside homes in the canyons above the basin have walls of glass facing the view, on lots where the ground falls away and the driveway is the only flat surface on the property. Down in the flats, neighborhoods like Mid City, Leimert Park and much of the Valley run to 1920s Spanish and postwar homes with sash and sliders that are far simpler to reach.
Then there are the corridors: storefront glass along Ventura Boulevard, Sunset and Pico, office lobbies downtown and on the Westside, and apartment buildings in every direction with balcony sliders stacked several floors up. A crew here plans by neighborhood and by hour, because a job that takes ninety minutes can sit behind a two hour drive if the schedule ignores traffic entirely.
Amazing job. Very professional and our windows are perfectly clean. Thanks Squeegeezy!

Like peas in a pod...

The basin traps air, and that is the first problem on every street facing pane in the city. Exhaust and urban haze settle into an oily grey film that resists water and only becomes obvious once one window has been cleaned and its neighbor has not. Heat then bakes it onto the surface for most of the year.
Santa Ana winds bring a second load, driving canyon dust and, after a fire, ash against the hillside neighborhoods and the east facing walls everywhere else. Ash is abrasive, so it never gets wiped dry. We degrease the film with proper dwell time, flood grit and ash before any contact, and reach hillside view glass from stable ground rather than improvising on a slope.
Yes, and it is a large part of the residential work here. Canyon homes often have entire walls of fixed glass on the side where the ground drops away, sometimes with the only level surface on the property being the driveway. We plan the access method before the crew arrives, using poles from stable ground where possible and levelers or a lift where the grade genuinely requires it.
The basin holds air in place, so exhaust and urban haze settle out rather than dispersing. What lands is fine and slightly oily, which is why a hose barely changes anything and a dry cloth just smears it. Street facing glass collects it fastest and heat bakes it on. Regular washing with a real detergent stops it from layering, and most homes on a busy street here do best quarterly.
By flooding the glass before anything touches it. Ash is abrasive and slightly caustic, so a cloth on a dry pane grinds it into the surface and leaves haze that never comes out. We rinse it away first, wash with a solution that neutralizes what remains, then clear the sills, tracks and screens where the heavier material collects. If smoke is still in the air, waiting a few days usually avoids paying twice.
