Salt also corrodes metal, so screen frames, weep holes and window hardware here degrade faster than they would twenty miles inland. Our routine is a full fresh water flush before any scrubbing, so the salt is carried off rather than dragged across the glass, followed by a wash and a hand squeegee. Screens come out and get rinsed separately, and we clear the weep holes while we have the sashes open.
Homes directly on the water or the canals usually need exterior glass done quarterly, since salt reloads within weeks of a clean.
