Big open lots mean prairie grass and native planting close to the house, and through late spring and summer that puts a heavy load of grass pollen and seed onto the glass. It is fine, light material that clings once any dew forms, and it reaches upper windows more readily than heavier soil dust does.
Sloped ground supplies the second issue. On a lot that falls away from the house, runoff after a storm carries soil against the lower course of a wall and splashes it up onto ground floor windows, sometimes higher than you would expect. We rinse before wiping, soften splash rather than scraping it off, and pay extra attention to sills and the bottom rail on downhill elevations.
Yes, and on the larger properties here it comes up often. Barns, workshops and guest structures usually have simpler glass than the main house but a great deal more dust, cobweb and insect buildup, so they take time rather than technique.
