Denton sits where the blackland gives way to the Cross Timbers, and the soil change is something a crew notices right away. Sand largely replaces heavy clay across much of the city, which means the dust that reaches glass here is gritty and abrasive rather than sticky. It brushes off more easily and it scratches far more readily, which is why nothing on a Denton job ever gets wiped dry.
The building stock is a proper mix. Around the courthouse square, late 1800s and early 1900s commercial buildings have ornate upper facades with second and third floor windows that rarely get touched. The Oak Hickory historic district holds Queen Anne and craftsman houses with original sashes, deep porches and decorative glass panels. Out toward Loop 288 and the newer subdivisions, it is conventional modern brick, and the two university areas keep a steady flow of rental turnover work coming through.
Amazing job. Very professional and our windows are perfectly clean. Thanks Squeegeezy!

Like peas in a pod...

Cross Timbers sand is the thing to handle correctly. The particles are angular and hard, so a dry cloth across a dusty pane will leave fine scratching that never comes out. Every job here starts with a proper water flush so the grit is carried away before anything mechanical touches the surface.
Post oak and blackjack oak cover much of the area and drop catkins and pollen heavily in spring, which fills tracks and mats onto damp glass. On the older houses around the square and the historic district, decorative and beveled glass sections are hand cleaned rather than squeegeed, and we keep solution off aging putty lines and painted trim.
Because the soil in this area is sandy rather than clay, and those particles are hard and angular. Dragging a cloth across a dusty pane grinds them into the surface and leaves fine scratches that no cleaning will remove afterward. That is why we always flush with water first, so the grit is carried off the glass before a scrubber or a squeegee ever touches it. The same applies if you clean them yourself.
Usually yes. The older commercial buildings around the square have second and third floor windows set into ornate facades, and in many cases nothing has cleaned them in years. Access is the question rather than technique: we look at sidewalk clearance, parking restrictions and whether poles or a lift are appropriate before quoting. Work is scheduled early so equipment is not in the way once the square gets busy.
By hand, and slowly. Queen Anne and craftsman houses in the historic district often have beveled, textured or colored glass panels set alongside plain sashes, and those cannot be squeegeed the way flat glass can. We clean them with minimal moisture, work around the came and solder rather than across it, and never scrape. Aging glazing putty gets kept dry so it does not soften and lift.
