Chattanooga is hemmed in by ridges, and every one of them changes the job. Homes on Lookout Mountain and Signal Mountain sit on steep lots with driveways that switch back on themselves, and the rear of a house is often a full story lower than the front door. Missionary Ridge tells the same story on a smaller scale. Crews carry leveling gear on every route into the hills, because flat ground up there is the exception.
Down in the valley the work looks different. North Shore and Highland Park hold early twentieth century houses with tall sash and wide porches. Downtown and along the riverfront the old industrial buildings have been converted into offices and lofts with enormous original window openings. Businesses on Broad Street and around the aquarium clean far more often than a house ever would, and those visits are scheduled before the day's foot traffic starts moving.
Amazing job. Very professional and our windows are perfectly clean. Thanks Squeegeezy!

Like peas in a pod...

The gorge does something specific to glass here. Cool air settles into the valley overnight and the river keeps feeding it moisture, so heavy fog is normal and it leaves dew standing on every exterior pane by dawn.
Dew holds whatever is in the air, which through spring means a serious pollen load off the surrounding hardwood ridges. It dries into a film that has to be washed rather than wiped. Summer humidity then grows mildew on the shaded elevations, which on a hillside house means most of the downhill side. Winter road treatment on the mountain routes throws salt and grit onto ground floor glass as well, so the lower panes on a hill house always need extra attention.
Yes, that is routine work here. A house on the mountain often presents one story at the driveway and three at the back, so each elevation gets planned separately with leveling feet, standoff hardware or poles depending on the drop. We walk the property before starting rather than guessing from the front. Where a slope will not hold a ladder safely, that section is reached from inside the house or from a deck above.
The valley and the river together. Cool air sinks into the low ground overnight, the water keeps feeding it moisture, and the result is fog that leaves every exterior pane wet by dawn. That wet layer traps pollen and dust against the glass instead of letting it blow away, then dries into a film. It is normal here rather than a sign of a problem, though it does mean exterior work waits until midmorning.
We do. The old industrial buildings along the riverfront and through the Southside have very large original openings, sometimes steel sash with dozens of small lites, and those get worked by hand rather than with a wide squeegee. Interior faces are straightforward from inside the unit. For exterior faces above the second floor we work with whatever access the building provides, and confirm that with management before scheduling.
