Elevation is the fact that governs everything here. Sitting up on the Palmer Divide well above Denver, Castle Rock holds snow longer, sees more of it, and pushes through more freeze and thaw cycles than the cities down on the plains. Our working season is genuinely shorter as a result, which is why spring books out fast and we encourage clients to lock in dates rather than call when the weather finally turns.
The town itself splits neatly. Historic downtown around Wilcox Street and Perry Street has older brick buildings with display glass and upper sash, and the surrounding original neighborhoods hold small early homes on tight lots. Out in the Meadows, Founders Village and the newer filings toward Plum Creek, the homes are large, recent and built with tall stairwell and great room glass. Scrub oak grows right up against many of those lots, which affects both access and what lands on the windows.

Snow is the defining problem, and not because it is dirty. Heavy Palmer Divide storms pile snow against the lower course of windows and onto lower roof sections where it sits for days, melting and refreezing repeatedly. Each cycle drives grit and roof granules tighter into the sash channels and against the glass, which is why lower panes here often look worse in March than they did in November.
The Gambel oak adds the rest. Those thickets hold onto their dry leaves well into winter, then drop them in gusts that plaster wet leaf matter against windows and stuff it into wells and tracks. We clear that debris before washing, then work the frozen in grit loose with water rather than dragging it across the pane.
Generally from April into October, with the exact edges depending on the year. Sitting up on the Palmer Divide means more snow and a longer cold stretch than the cities below, so the reliable working season is shorter here than in Denver. Spring dates fill quickly for that reason. Mild winter stretches sometimes allow exterior work, and we are happy to look at the forecast with you rather than turning the job down outright.
Repeated freeze and thaw is why. Snow banks against the bottom of the glass and sits on lower roof sections, then melts and refreezes over and over, and each cycle presses roof grit and dirt harder into the sash channel and against the pane. By March that material is packed in rather than sitting loose on top. We soak it free rather than scraping, because dragging that grit across glass is what causes scratches.
They do. Gambel oak holds dry leaves late into the season and then releases them in gusts, and wet leaf matter plasters onto glass and packs into window wells and tracks. Left there through winter it stains and holds moisture against the frame. On properties with oak close to the house we clear the wells and channels first as a matter of course, then wash. It is also worth trimming growth back from the wall where you can.
