The capital keeps two very different kinds of building within a few blocks of each other. Along Carson Street and out toward the Governor's Mansion, the historic west side holds houses raised in the 1860s and 1870s with original wood sash, true divided lites and glass old enough to ripple when you look through it at an angle. Those are cleaned by hand, one pane at a time, and never with a scraper.
A short walk east and the work turns into state office buildings, which means weekday access, sign in at a desk and schedules built around business hours rather than around weather. Newer subdivisions on the north end and out past Kings Canyon Road are conventional two story stock with taller entry glass and simpler access. At roughly forty eight hundred feet the season is short, so exterior work gets packed into spring through fall and the calendar fills quickly once the snow is gone.
Amazing job. Very professional and our windows are perfectly clean. Thanks Squeegeezy!

Like peas in a pod...

Carson City sits in a valley that funnels wind, and two things ride in on it. Through spring, juniper and pine pollen off the Sierra front settles into a yellow layer on every horizontal sill and streaks the moment it gets wet.
Through winter the roads get sanded rather than left slick, and passing traffic throws that grit up onto ground floor glass along Carson Street and the busier residential corridors. It is abrasive, so it gets rinsed off rather than wiped, or it scratches. Snowmelt running off older roofs without gutters leaves its own mineral tracks down the panes below, a common find on the historic west side every March.
Slowly, and entirely by hand. Panes in these 1860s and 1870s houses are thin, slightly rippled and set in putty long past its prime, so nothing gets scraped and no pressure goes against the muntins. Each lite is cleaned individually with a cloth rather than run over with a wide squeegee. We also note any putty that has crumbled away, since that is worth repairing before another winter works on it.
We do, and those run on their own calendar. Government and professional offices downtown need weekday scheduling, sign in at the desk and sometimes an escort, so all of that gets confirmed before a crew arrives rather than sorted out in the lobby. Ground floor glass along Carson Street usually needs more frequent attention than the upper floors, because winter road sand and street traffic hit the lower panes hardest.
Roughly April through October. At this elevation overnight temperatures stay near or below freezing well into spring, and water left on glass in those conditions freezes before it can be squeegeed clear. Most homeowners book right after the last snow to clear winter road sand, then again in early fall before weather turns. Interior work carries on through the cold months without any trouble at all.
