State Road 60 is the reason Brandon looks the way it does. The corridor through the middle of town is one of the busiest retail stretches in Hillsborough County, and the glass along it, big box frontage, restaurant entries, dealership showrooms and the mall, makes up a large share of our commercial schedule. That work runs before opening or after close, because working a doorway at midday on that road helps nobody.
Behind the corridor Brandon is quiet suburbia. Bloomingdale and the neighborhoods off Lithia Pinecrest Road are subdivisions from the eighties and nineties, two story homes with a screened lanai and a lot of mature landscaping. Many of them sit inside surviving oak hammock that was left in place when the streets were cut. That shade is pleasant to live under and it is the main thing our residential crews plan around.
Amazing job. Very professional and our windows are perfectly clean. Thanks Squeegeezy!

Like peas in a pod...

Live oak is the residential story. A mature hammock over a house drops catkins and heavy pollen in spring, sheds through the dry season and carries aphids that leave honeydew on everything below. Shade keeps those panes damp, which turns sticky residue into a dark film instead of letting it blow off. Frames and sills have to be treated with the glass or it returns almost immediately.
Commercial glass on the corridor has a completely different problem. Constant traffic lays an oily road film on any frontage facing the highway, and that needs detergent and a full wash rather than a rinse. Entry doors at high volume stores take hand contact all day, which is a question of frequency rather than technique.
Yes, and it is a large part of our commercial week here. Store frontage, restaurant entries and dealership showrooms along that stretch all get done before opening or after close, since working a doorway during trading hours on that road is not realistic. Showroom glass in particular needs a careful finish, because a car dealership floor is lit specifically to show every mark on a pane.
A lot, and most of it is not obvious. Mature live oaks drop catkins and pollen in spring, shed through the dry season, and host aphids whose honeydew falls as a sticky film that catches dust and turns dark. The shade underneath keeps the glass damp, so none of it dries and blows away. Homes inside a hammock generally need a shorter interval than an identical house on an open lot nearby.
Yes, and those are most of the housing in that part of Brandon. The awkward part is usually the upper rear windows, which sit above a screened lanai roof where a ladder cannot go, so we reach them with pole work from the deck or the side yard. We clean the lanai screens at the same visit, since anything left in the mesh washes down onto the glass the next time it rains.
